It always starts with a move. Today my office of 5 years is closing and I’m being moved to the Death Star. An army of eager admins and beefy minions has come and taken all my equipment from a now empty office. 5 years can be moved in 5 minutes, if you have it ready for them when they come.
There is the usual hiding of things, like my 12” iPad Pro which they don’t want me to have. Technically I can take that with me as an asset to the teaching I do elsewhere in the system, but it’s one of those things not to argue about and so I’ve just slipped it in my bag. My main Mac got it’s lobotomy, and now I’m working on my personal Air. In an empty office, but at least I’m on my office chair, which was too run down to move over to the Death Star. So instead I get a “younger” chair, as Jan explained to me.
Last night after work about 12 of us gathered at Babes to mark the end of UWC Online. It was such a good crew, and even if they all moved to better jobs they are not happier. I think most everyone would come back if they could. But we have be legislated and politicked out of business. And here we are.
End of an era. Loss of a good thing. Goodbye to friends. Forward into the future. It used to really be good here.
